CASHIERS, N.C. -- The Vanderbilt men's golf team finished second at the WCU Intercollegiate Tuesday at the Sapphire Valley Country Club.
The Commodores shot a two-day total of 582, 14-over on the par 71, 6,767-yard layout of Sapphire Valley. Teams faced fierce winds and chilly weather in the mountains of North Carolina on Tuesday, with only host Western Carolina finishing the event under par.Junior Jon Curran paced the Commodores, shooting even-par 142 for the two-day event. Curran finished in a tie for fourth place.Senior John Ebert tied for 14th place at four-over. Senior Brett Lange and junior Tyler Matthews also finished in the Top 20 of the 83-player field. Both shot five-over through 36 holes. Sophomore Craig Tallent posted an 11-over 153 in the event.
The Commodores closed the fall season with their best performance of the year. Vanderbilt will be off until Feb. 17, 2008, travelling to Jacksonville, Fla., for the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship.
